India Cough Syrup Tragedy: WHO Raises Alarm on Drug Safety Regulations

Aaj ke taja khabar yeh keh rahe hai ki World Health Organization ne India ke drug safety regulations par badi chinta jatayi hai. Yeh baat tab samne aayi jab Madhya Pradesh aur Rajasthan me kam se kam 20 bachchon ki maut cough syrup peene ke baad hui. WHO ne kaha hai ki yeh syrups sirf India tak seemit nahi rahenge, balki bina regulation ke channels ke through doosre deshon me bhi pahunch sakte hai.

Madhya Pradesh aur Rajasthan me maut ka silsila

Pichle mahine ke dauraan, Madhya Pradesh aur Rajasthan ke kai ilaakon me bachchon ki maut hui jinke cough syrups me diethylene glycol (DEG) paya gaya. Yeh ek aisa chemical hai jo industrial solvent me milta hai aur human body ke liye zehrila mana jata hai. Investigation me yeh baat samne aayi hai ki teen syrups—Coldrif (Sresan Pharmaceuticals), Respifresh (Rednex Pharmaceuticals), aur ReLife (Shape Pharma)—contaminated nikle hai.

Police ne pharma company ke malik ko kiya giraftar

Tamil Nadu me police ne Sresan Pharmaceuticals ke malik G. Ranganathan ko giraftar kar liya hai. 73 saal ke Ranganathan pharmaceutical industry me purane aur mashhoor naam rahe hai. Health Minister Ma Subramaniam ne kaha hai ki company ka manufacturing license permanently cancel kiya jayega. Yeh kadam tab uthaya gaya jab Tamil Nadu Drug Control department ne 364 manufacturing rules ke violations pakde, jinme se 39 "bahut gambhir" aur 325 "major" the.

Inspection me nikli manufacturing ki pol

Drug Control department ke report me likha gaya hai ki factory me bahut saari khamiyan payi gayi. Staff ki qualification poor thi, water aur equipment ka standard kharab tha, pest control ka koi record nahi tha, aur quality assurance system bilkul absent tha. Report me likha gaya, “Manufactured products ko bahut hi unhygienic jagah par store kiya gaya tha. Sewage ko bina purification ke chhoda gaya aur drug production ke liye jo paani use kiya gaya wo bhi saf nahi tha.”

Bachchon ke parivaaron me dard aur gussa

Madhya Pradesh ke Parasia gaon me Reenu Suryavanshi jaise kai maata-pita apne bachchon ke gum me ro rahe hai. Reenu ke teen saal ke bachche ki maut Coldrif syrup peene ke baad hui. Uske symptoms me fever, vomiting, aur urinary problems thi, aur thodi der me bachcha mar gaya. Doctor Praveen Soni jinhone yeh syrup prescribe kiya tha unhe bhi police ne arrest kar liya hai negligence ke aarop me. Lekin medical groups ka kehna hai ki asli zimmedari regulators ki hai jinhone syrups ko test karne me lapa parwayi dikhayi.

WHO ka global warning signal

WHO ne yeh bhi kaha hai ki India me banne wale kuch cough syrups pichle kuch saalon me global level par maut ke cases se jude rahe hai. 2023 me The Gambia aur Uzbekistan me aise hi Indian syrups ne 88 bachchon ki jaan le li. WHO ne governments ko alert kiya hai ki bina license aur safety check ke dawaiyon ka export rokna zaroori hai.

India ke regulators par sawal

India ka drug regulatory system pehle bhi kai baar question me raha hai. Experts ka kehna hai ki kai chhoti aur be-naam pharmaceutical companies bina proper testing aur guidelines ke drugs bana leti hai. Yeh syrups local chemist shops me asaani se milte hai aur log bina doctor ke prescription ke khareed lete hai. Yeh bhi ek reason hai ki aise cases baar-baar ho rahe hai.

Parents me bhay ka mahaul

India me parents ke beech me ab dar ka mahaul hai. Cough aur cold jaise common infections ke liye log syrup dete hai, lekin ab unhe dar hai ki kahin dawai zeher na ban jaye. Kai states ne do saal se chhote bachchon ke liye cough syrups ka use ban kar diya hai. Kuch states ne toh sari companies ke cough syrups temporarily restrict kar diye hai jab tak lab testing complete nahi hoti.

WHO ne maanga global cooperation

WHO ne appeal kiya hai ki sabhi desh ek global monitoring system banaye jisse aise toxic syrups ke production aur export ko track kiya ja sake. Unhone kaha ki “A single contaminated medicine can destroy dozens of lives across borders.” WHO ka kehna hai ki global regulatory agencies ko milkar ek transparent framework banana hoga jisse low-quality drugs ka spread roka ja sake.

India ki sarkar ne shuru ki action

Indian government ne ab pharma companies ke against nationwide inspection campaign launch kiya hai. Health Ministry ne kaha hai ki sabhi states ke Drug Control Departments ko order diya gaya hai ki wo apne area me cough syrups aur cold medicines ka chemical testing karaye. Sresan aur Rednex jaise companies ke license suspend kar diye gaye hai.

Public me awareness badhane ki zarurat

Experts ka kehna hai ki sarkar ko sirf karvayi nahi, balki awareness campaigns bhi chalani chahiye. Logo ko samjhaya jaye ki har cough ya cold ke liye syrup lena zaroori nahi hota. Parents ko advise di gayi hai ki wo bina doctor ke prescription ke koi bhi syrup na kharide aur packaging par manufacturing company ka naam check kare.

Pharmaceutical industry par nayi policy banne ki ummeed

WHO ke is statement ke baad ummeed ki ja rahi hai ki India apni drug safety policy me bade reforms karega. Government ke andar is baat par discussion ho raha hai ki manufacturing license ke liye stricter conditions lagayi jayein aur unregulated export ko poori tarah roka jaye. Experts ka kehna hai ki agar India ne ab bhi kadam nahi uthaye, toh future me aur bhi bade tragedies ho sakte hai.

Conclusion:

Yeh poora mamla sirf India ke liye nahi balki poori duniya ke liye ek warning hai. Medicine jahan zindagi bachati hai, wahi agar regulation fail ho jaye toh maut ka sabab ban sakti hai. WHO ke kehne par ab sabhi desh ko milkar ek safe aur transparent pharma system banana hoga jisse aisi dardnaak ghatnayein dubara na ho.
